I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me. ~Jesus

Finding Favour - Slip On By

I was driving and listening to the radio the other morning when this song came on, and when I heard it, I immediately liked it because it was more alternative than what you normally hear on mainstream radio. The lyrics are what also got to me. When I got home I ran a search for the band and after listening to the song a few times, it started to make me really think about opportunities that I might be missing in life. Opportunities that I take for granted like really making the most of the moments with my family, with Jesus, and people in general. The truth is, we don't have much time here. It is precious, and God only gives us so much of it. You could even think of time as being our most precious thing, because once it's spent, it's gone forever. At age 38, "Slip On By" really hit home because I can honestly look back and see plenty of missed opportunities, but it also leaves me inspired to try and put more effort into life; To have a better attitude. This song isn't just entertainment. It really is a call for us all to cherish every moment and not take any of it for granted. They way they deliver that message is just amazing. Great song!

Devin Williams - Overload

My son Colson came in the other night and told me to check out Devin Williams. He said that he had heard him on Pandora with Love and Death. After watching the video to his song "Overload" I was sold. He has a nice sound; It's a blend of hard rock and alternative, but edgy... There is a lot about this band that I really like, especially that he loves Jesus, plays churches, etc... Though he is probably the principle songwriter, the only thing I personally think they could change (and would probably take them further) is to collectively come up with a name that fits their sound, so when you hear it, you know it's going to be as hard as this song is. Check it out!

Lovelite - In Three Persons

If you were ever a fan of the music of the 80's, then you will absolutely dig Lovelite! Lovelite just put out their new album "In Three Persons" on Noisetrade. These guys (and one girl) aren't pretenders... They're the real deal! Their music can be described as indie-alternative and new wave (80's), with lots of keyboards, ambient sounds and fresh, vibrant vocals done by Andrew and Jen Polfer (husband and wife). I first heard a song by Lovelite a few years back and I knew they were different. Too bad I didn't look any further. With the release of this album, it unfolds a whole new perspective for me of this highly talented band. One word:  anointed

Solamors

I came across a tweet yesterday by Jason Wisdom (formerly of Becoming The Archetype) where he was talking about his new band Solamors. I really got excited when I found out that Alex Kenis and Travis Turner (Aletheian) were involved. For me it was the best of both worlds. I am not the biggest fan of high pitched growls/screams in metal. So with this I have Jason with his deep voice and the brutal technicality that Aletheian has. Amazing... Especially since a full-length song is about to drop on Monday (tomorrow). Get ready!

One Way Home Band

One of my favorite "undiscovered" bands just released the cd that I have been waiting for. It is called "The Cry", and If you liked the quality of music in the late 90's you will like these guys. Ronnie Mangrum has a terrific voice and the songwriting is top-notch. These guys are easily up there with the music on the radio, but they have an edge the other guys lack (which is why they may not be on the radio - who knows?) Check them out!

The Blackthorn Project

I follow Tim Thornton of The Blackthorn Project on Twitter and I noticed that they were giving away their music and allowing you to give them your email so that they can keep you "in the know" about their journey and future endeavors. Very cool. The Blackthorn Project is mostly just Tim and his wife Laurie Thornton, although I have heard either Tim, Laurie or both work with other artists like Enter The Worship Circle and Josh Garrels. I would strongly encourage you to follow this link and check out their music. Perfect if you like Worship music in the way of Folk Acoustic. They also interweave organic jam-type elements into their tunes. Good stuff!
